I am hoping we are far enough removed from the pandemic that things will be slightly more subdued this time around, at least without all of the constant misinformation circling on social media and the disputable links promoting poorly sourced news stories. It’s now suddenly starting all over again, as though the trolls were living in a cave all of this time waiting to re-emerge into the light and start swinging their club again. I was happy when the election season finally came to an end and I didn’t have to scroll past all of the barbs. In recent years, a combination of a slow economy, the pandemic, rampant racism and far-right sentiment, and just pure hatred seem to take over social media at every turn. I grew tired of all the infighting, sarcasm, and jabs during the last couple of presidential elections, especially since both sides couldn't remain even remotely civil. Most of them are not that funny and include some insider commentary, like this one: “The fly that landed on Mike Pence during the 2020 VP Debate has as much chance of being President as Pence.” I kept scrolling, and almost every single tweet was pointing out a flaw in his campaign, which has not even started yet.
